My sestina

We have been writing poems today, they were fun to make... we had to base it on two cards that someone else wrote, a Journey / Haerenga and a Path / Ara.
Here is what mine turned out like šŸ˜Š

My Sestina

Journey / Haerenga
Become a great and talented artist

Path / Ara
Patience, hard work, practice, skills and sacrifice

Something you saw.
I saw lots of famous celebrities.

Something you remember.
Every day I practiced so extremely hard.

A person who was with you
Selena Gomez was right next to me.

A wonderfully imagined thing that didn’t actually happen.
I met my most favorite celebrity.

The reason for your journey.
So I can achieve my dream.

Your own six-word sentence.

This took patience and hard work.

What a waste

Dear bloggers, in Literacy we are learning about waste and how much food we waste, did you know that when we waste food we also waste money, and it's more than $165 billion a year?! I also have a diagram of how things work when we eat our meat because when we waste meat we are wasting land, more food and a lot more. I hope you enjoy this slide.                                        Are you doing anything to reduce waste in New Zealand?
What can you do to reduce our waste?

My Essay

In literacy we are learning about waste, this is my essay... while we were learning about wasting food

I learned a lot about how we are wasting other things, like money and water too.

Waste

Every year we are wasting way too much food! Science shows we are eating too much meat.
So why not eat insects?
I know...  it sounds gross, but did you know that in all of your food there are insects anyway.
Everyone eats around 500 grams of insects a year. There might be a little leg of a spider or maybe
a small piece of a cockroach, so what is the big deal with eating insects??
There is a massive variety of insects all over the world, there are around 6 billion different species.

But how do we get around bugs looking/tasting disgusting?
I think a big reason why we have a problem with eating bugs is the way they look, lots of people don't
eat their food because it doesn’t look very appealing to eat, so maybe we could make them look more
appealing and cover them in chocolate and sprinkles or something.

When we waste food we waste a lot of other things that are very important for humans to live with...                                                                                                                                             The first thing we waste by wasting food is money, money is a massive thing that is being wasted, We waste more
than $165 billion a year! All from producing food that is never getting eaten. Next is energy,
we waste energy when we are using all of our machines when doing stuff with food.

The third thing we waste is water, about 25% of all freshwater is wasted.
The last thing is the land. We wasteland because we have to create land for our food, but when we
don’t eat the food, the land is being wasted.

So how can we reduce our waste in the household?
Waste is usually in houses so first let’s get to know the rules of recycling.                                                                                                                                 Don’t be scared by the confusing symbols and sorting rules. Finding out about the recycling system
is actually quite simple once you do a little research. Since recycling rules are different in some places,
find out the rules for your area.
it's better to keep packing
you can reuse in your home whenever you can, recycling is the next best option and it will prevent excess
waste from heading for the landfill.

The next thing we should do is make a meal plan                                                                                                                                In addition to material waste, food waste is a huge problem everywhere. Something to help is to only buy groceries that you know will eat. It sounds like a no-brainer, but you’d be surprised at how much food is wasted and thrown in the trash in New Zealand (In New Zealand we throw away 15.5 million tonnes of waste each year. That is 3,200kg for every kiwi!)The last thing is very important and everyone needs to STOP BUYING PLASTIC WATER BOTTLES!!                                                                                                                                Water bottles and paper coffee cups are huge wastes of material. Buy a sturdy, metal water bottle, and a cute coffee thermos so you can take your drinks wherever you want. You’ll find yourself feeling a lot more hydrated and a lot less wasteful.

The benefits of recycling… If we do recycle our plastics it will mean less risk of having pollution incidents, less waste of things we really need, and it will reduce the amount of food that’s sent to landfills.

So, in conclusion, please try to waste less food, Also Lowering your food waste can be a great way to cut back your bills and footprint!

Numbers 1-10 in Samoan with scratch!

Hi bloggers,

We are learning Samoan every Wednesday and over the last two weeks, we have been learning how to count to ten.  I found this quite easy as it is very similar to counting to 10 in Maori.  Today we used Scratch to code a program that would show people how to count to ten in Samoan.  Check it out!  Can you count to 10 in any other language?

Write in any numeral to watch our clever cat show you what it is in Samoan?
